Kevin Moxham has been Khoemacau’s General Manager since December 2019. He leads the Khoemacau site team and is tasked with transitioning the project from construction into operations.
Prior to his appointment as General Manager, Kevin was part of the Khoemacau project executive development team. Kevin has over 35 years’ of mining experience including senior leadership roles across the continent such as: General Manager at Barrick’s North Mara Mine, Tanzania, Executive General Manager at BISHA Mine, Eritrea and General Manager at Newmont Akyem Mine, Ghana.
Kevin is a qualified and registered professional certified engineer and holds a Bachelor of Business Leadership degree.
Centralised Services Manager
Neo Kwakwa is a mechanical engineer with 33 years’ experience. Neo started as a graduate trainee with the Botswana Power Corporation. He then went on to serve as Project and Commissioning Engineer with Soda Ash Botswana, where he was part of a team that built the largest Soda Ash-Salt manufacturing plant in Africa.
He then went to serve as a Principal Engineer in the government inspectorate, after which he joined Tati Nickel Mining as a Projects Engineer for the Activox project. In 2009 he was promoted to Engineering Executive.
Neo is in charge of all utility service support functions at Khoemacau Mine. Neo holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova-Scotia in Canada and Master of Science in Combustion and Energy from Leeds University in the United Kingdom.
Mompati Babusi is a metallurgist with 19 years’ of base metal concentrator plant operational and management experience. After graduating from university, Mompati joined Tati Nickel Mining Company.
He was involved in the commissioning and later the upgrading of the Tati Nickel concentrator plant. He has vast experience in metallurgical accounting, process improvement and optimisation, and process control. Mompati is responsible for ensuring the Process Plant is constructed as per design intent and will lead the Process Plant team to ensure the safe and efficient production of copper and silver concentrate.
Mompati holds a Bachelor of Mineral Processing Engineering (Hons) degree from the University of Queensland in Australia. He has also completed the Management Development Programme (MDP) at the University of Stellenbosch.
Damon is a Mining Engineer with over 25 years of experience and has spent 15 years in mine management and executive roles. Damon has worked across Australia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Africa and the USA in operations, studies, projects, improvement, and innovation.
His operational achievements include performance transformational improvements at Gold Fields including Junction, Leviathan and Waroonga. Damon has managed early to late-stage mining projects with the recent highlight of economically transforming the Subika Underground Project in Ghana which is now constructed. Damon holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from the Western Australian School of Mines.
Human Resources Manager
Vincent has worked for various organisations and across multiple industries including mining, wholesale, and parastatals. Vincent joined Khoemacau from the National Food Technology Research Centre in Kanye, Botswana, where he was the Director of Corporate Services.
Vincent Mothupi holds a PhD, a Master’s degree and an Honours degree in Development and Management, all obtained from North-West University, South Africa. He also has two Diplomas in Human Resources Management, from the Institute of People Management (RSA) and Southern Business School (RSA). He is a Chartered member of the South African Board of Personnel Practitioners (SABPP) and has sat on a number of Boards.
Acting Finance Manager
Lewis Mosarwana joined Khoemacau as a Cost and Management Reporting Accountant in December 2019. Lewis started his career in 2005 at BCL Limited as a graduate trainee. He has worked for multiple mining contractors, including Sandvik and Fluor Botswana.
Lewis holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Management from University of Derby (through the Botswana Accountancy College), a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Botswana, and has completed a Leadership Development Programme course through the University of Johannesburg.
Acting Environment and Community Manager
Johnny Marudu has 17 years’ experience in environmental and social management. He provides environmental and stakeholder management input into planning and rehabilitation activities through direct consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
His environmental stewardship approach is based on the identification, assessment, monitoring and control of risks across all phases of the business.
Johnny has a proven record of providing technical and execution advice to ensure environmental and social management programmes are implemented effectively. In addition, Johnny has been instrumental in due diligence forums for sourcing funds for mine development projects.
Johnny has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences and Archaeology from the University of Botswana.
Oarabile Disang is a geoscience professional with more than fourteen years’ experience in exploration and mining geology. Oarabile commenced his exploration and mining geology career in open pit mining with Tati Nickel Mining Company in 2007 as a Graduate Mine Geologist.
Following the successful completion of the graduate development programme, Oarabile’s career progressed from exploration geologist at African Copper Minerals to mine geologist and senior mine geologist with Discovery Metals.
Oarabile holds a Degree in geology from the University of Botswana and a Master’s Degree in Mineral Economics from Curtin University, Western Australian School of Mines.
Cristo van Niekerk
Engineering Systems and Implementation Manager
Cristo van Niekerk has 44 years’ experience in the mining industry. He spent 25 years in deep-level gold mining in South Africa. From 2006 Cristo changed direction and started building mining projects in multiple African countries.
As a qualified Competent Professional Certificated Engineer his experience has covered conventional and trackless underground mining, vertical and decline shaft sinking operations, process and refrigeration plant construction and commissioning and various other infrastructure projects. Cristo has successfully managed project execution, commissioning and production issues during ramping up to nameplate capacities.
Cristo joined Cupric Africa as project manager in 2017 and upon completion of the project feasibility study relocated to the Khoemacau Copper Mine in Botswana.
